Using Grass Swales to manage stormwater

Site Description: The Breezy Knoll Subdivision, located in Watertown, CT installed roadside grass swales to handle water quality issues of the wetlands on site.

Design Details: This site has historically been used for agriculture. There are very steep slopes, shallow-depth-to-bedrock, and wetlands on site. The site drains to a lake and associated large wetland.

Notes: The construction of the swales required a lot of earth work. The town planner noted that during construction of the swales that impacts from sediment were minimal as compared to the pipes, ccbs, etc.
