Municipal Initiative Success Stories

Each year, NEMO distributes a Request for Proposals (RFP) soliciting admission into the Municipal Initiative. Selected municipalities commit to the process of working with NEMO as partners on a long-term educational program with the goal of achieving specific policy and on-the-ground changes. Three to five municipalities are chosen each year. Learn more about becoming a part of the Municipal Initiative in the Commissioner Training section of our website.

The success stories from the Municipal Initiative are as varied as the myriad land use challenges communities confront. Some communities may be interested in developing inventories to assist with planning and development review. Others may wish to incorporate specific stormwater standards in their regulations. Yet others may perform detailed analysis of the effect of land use changes on their water resources. The following towns have gone through the Municipal Initiative and demonstrated that with a little education and back up technical services, towns can accomplish amazing things.
