Option 2: Download Map Package

Got Maps?

Instructions for getting and using the map package for each coastal municipality.

Click "Download Data" above if you already have ArcReader and WinZip. Otherwise, follow the easy steps below.

What is ArcReader? ArcReader is a free, easy-to-use product that allows anyone to view, explore, and print published map files (PMFs). It is a product of ESRI. ArcReader requires Windows NT 4.0 with Service Pack 6a (or) Windows 2000 (or) Windows XP (Home Edition and Professional).

Get Going! Follow these Steps: | Printer-friendly PDF

1) Download ArcReader

First, if you don't have it already, download ArcReader (It's Free!!). Follow this link to the ESRI website to Download ArcReader. Be sure to read the notes before you start.

2) Download the Data and WinZip

Next, download the data. Data layers for each town (with a one mile buffer) are available. Find the town and then click on the zip file. This brings us to the next step. You need WinZip. If you don't already have it, download WinZip.

3) Unzip Data

Once you have WinZip, clicking on the zipped file for any town will prompt you to Open or Save the file. Choose Save. Select a place on your computer where you would like the zipped file to go and click Save. Once the download is complete, click Open. The data is now visible within the WinZip window. Choose to Extract the data and pick a location on your computer where you would like the data to be stored.

4) Explore the data

Open ArcReader. On the File menu, select Open and navigate to the location where you unzipped the data files. Choose to open the *.pmf file. This should open the ArcReader file and display the available data layers for the buffered town.

If you made it this far, you are in good shape! We have put together a brief ArcReader help page. ArcReader also comes with a good help file if you need more information. If you still can't figure things out, contact the UConn Geospatial Technology Program.
