Brief Description
This is a 1:24,000-scale datalayer of named lakes in Connecticut. It includes
all lakes that are named on the U.S. Geologicial Survey (USGS) 7½ minute
topographic quadrangle maps that cover the State of Connecticut, plus other
officially named lakes in Connecticut. Each polygon is assigned a lake number.
The lake boundary information is derived from the hydrography datalayer, which
is based on the USGS Digital Line Graph Files (DLG) for the 1:24,000 scale Connecticut
quadrangle maps published between 1969 and 1984.
This datalayer does not include all of the lakes on the USGS 7½ minute
topgraphic quadrangle maps. It is intended to be used with the named streams
and, optionally, hydrography marsh datalayers for a simple representation of
waterbodies. To represent all waterbodies on the USGS 7½ minute topographic
quadrangle maps, use the hydrography datalayer.
