Brief Description

This is a 1:24,000-scale datalayer of Connecticut Towns. It includes two files with line and polygon features. The line file includes state, county, town, and coastline boundaries. The polygon file includes polygons that represent the geographic extent of each town, including coastal islands. Polygons are assigned town numbers to identify them. This datalayer is based on the town boundary information that appears on the U.S. Geological Survey 7½ (USGS) minute topographic quadrangle maps that cover the State of Connecticut. It was derived from the USGS Digital Line Graph Files (DLG) for the 1:24,000 scale Connecticut quadrangle maps published between 1969 and 1984.

The shoreline boundary in this datalayer is based on the coastline in the hydrography datalayer. For consistency between related datalayers, this same hydrography coastline is included in other datalayers such as hydrography subset, named streams, major basins, regional basins, subregional basins, local basins, basins, soils, surficial materials, bedrock geology, and quaternary geology.
