Coastal Resource Inventory Tutorial

4. Water Resources

Waterways are the life lines of your aquatic and coastal resources, and are the connection between the land use in your town's watersheds and your coastal areas. Need we say more?

A watershed is an area that drains to one common outlet. Watersheds come in all sizes, from the acre that drains into your duck pond, to the Mississippi River Watershed that incorporates a goodly portion of the United States. Natural resource experts are increasingly recommending the watershed as the most meaningful geographic area with which to analyze, assess and manage natural systems. Your town watershed data layer will allow you to see which areas of your town (or others) drain to your coastal resources.
